GRAND FINAL L’ORÉAL PROFESSIONNEL STYLE & COLOUR TROPHY 2019 AT JAKARTA FASHION WEEK 2020: L’Oréal Professionnel Returns With the Biggest Hairdressing Competition Worldwide

L’Oréal Professionnel Style and Colour Trophy 2019 is back as the biggest international hairdressing competition, with this being its eighth year of being held in Indonesia. Around 200 contestants went through a series of judging processes since last July. Today, at the Jakarta Fashion Week 2020, L’Oréal Professionnel decided on the winners that will represent Indonesia in the global round of L’Oréal Professionnel Style & Colour Trophy 2019 in Milan, Italy in March 2020.


Hendra Purjaka, Brand General Manager L’Oréal Professionnel explains, “From year to year, L’Oréal Professionnel Style and Colour Trophy has successfully produced hairdressing superstars that represent Indonesia worldwide and make us proud. With this competition, finalists and winners of L’Oréal Professionnel Style and Colour Trophy will be seen as skilled and trusted figures in hairdressing in the eyes of Indonesia and the world, bringing creativity in the art of hairdressing to a whole other level.”


Indra Tanudarma, Head of Education L’Oréal Professionnel, adds, “In this eighth year, we present the theme “Hair Inspired by Fashion” and ask hairdressers from all over Indonesia to innovate and create a stunning total look, starting from the selection of colors and styles, make-up, outfit and accessories that are fashion-forward. We want to gain people’s trust and reassure them that these hairdressers have what they need to look stylish and in line with their distinct, individual personalities.”


During the semifinals, contestants of L’Oréal Professionnel Style and Colour Trophy were judged based on their abilities to create the best, most modern and multidimensional total looks with colors that are inspired by the latest trends and the strong beauty persona of women all over the world. Hair color is the main factor in the assessment process, supported by the concept and inspiration behind the look, as well as the cleanliness and neatness of the work area, time management and presentation.


Creations presented during the Grand Final were assessed by both local and international judges that represent their respective expertise, namely, Margaretha Untoro (Editor in Chief & CCO DEWI Magazine), Glenn Prasetya (Professional Fashion Photographer), Danielle Solier (Co-Owner and Colour Director Xiang Hair CBD & Co-Owner RazorSmith Barbershop, Australia), Gary Chew (L’Oréal Professionnel ID Artist, Co-Founder/Director Salon Vim Singapore), and Simi Keer (L’Oréal Professionnel Zone Education Director for ASEAN).


All finalists of L’Oréal Professionnel Style and Colour Trophy 2019 competed for titles in two main categories, namely the Colour Trophy Award and Young Colorist Award. The Young Colorist Award category is specifically for contestants who are at most 25 years old. Through this category, L’Oréal Professionnel opens opportunities ofr hairdressing vocational graduates to compete in an effort to develop new talents from the younger generation of the hairdressing world. Besides the two main categories, Special Awards were also awarded, namely Color Award, Cut & Style Award, Editorial Award by DEWI and People’s Choice Award.


“The passion and excitement in L’Oréal Professionnel Style and Colour Trophy are so high, much more so than previous years. We accrued nearly 200 registrants this year coming from 30 cities in more than 100 salons across Indonesia who have registered online through as well as offline. Winners of the main category won an educational trip to the UK as well as the opportunity to complete in the international L’Oréal Professionnel Style and Colour Trophy in Italy. Runners-up and the winner of the Young Colorist Award category won an educational trip to Australia and Malaysia, which are very beneficial for the career development of these hairdressers,” said Indra Tanudarma.


In Jakarta Fashion Week 2020, L’Oréal Professionnel also featured MAJI Fashion hair color creations with cool-toned colors, presented by L’Oréal Professionnel Hairdresser Ambassadors and ID Artists in collaboration with one of Indonesia’s famed designers, Rinda Salmun.


For the eighth time, L’Oréal Professionnel has become a partner of Jakarta Fashion Week as an official backstage partner, contributing more than 350 hairdressers to style and create more than 12,000 hairstyles in more than 600 fashion shows throughout the history of Jakarta Fashion Week. TecniART, the series of hairstyling products that has been a hairdressing partner in various fashion weeks worldwide, is the official hairstyling product of Jakarta Fahsion Week 2020.


“This year is the eighth year L’Oréal Professionnel lends its support in Jakarta Fashion Week, specifically through the L’Oréal Professionnel Style and Colour Trophy which was also held for the eight time. This is the first time worldwide that the grand final of L’Oréal Professionnel Style and Colour Trophy is held in the fashion week stage. From here, we hope to see many more incredibly talented hairdressers emerge, increase the standards of creativity and innovation amongst haidressers, and continuously inspire all hairdressers and fashion enthusiasts across Indonesia,” concluded Hendra.
