For the first time in the Brandstorm history, Indonesia was ranked first. Team Phoenix from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), won the Intrapreneurship Award at L'Oreal Brandstorm International Finals 2019. This intrapreneurship award gives Team Phoenix the opportunity to have a three-month-internship program at the world's biggest startup incubator located in Paris, Station F.
The 53 semi-finalist teams were selected to join the international finals in Paris, pitch their innovation idea in a startup-like fair, before the six top teams were selected to pitch on the main stage in front of senior leaders of the Group, one of which is Team Phoenix. Their presentation at the final round impressed all of the judges, including L'Oreal Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Nicola Hieronimus.
"We are very happy and proud to represent Indonesia in the Brandstorm International Finals. Our participation here is a very priceless experience for us, as it does not only gain us a whole new knowledge and perspective, but we also get to meet new friends from the other 53 countries. Even more amazing, the internship at Station F will gives us the chance to prototype our idea", explained Albert Sahala, one of Team Phoenix's representative.
Team Phoenix's innovative idea was called the ‘EzBand’ - a connected bracelet designed for children with eczema. The device has multiple skin sensors and uses electrical sensors to analyze the condition of the skin and monitor the child’s movements, giving live feedback to their parents. The device comes with a ‘Crayon de Posay’ trinket, offering a fun way for children to apply their treatment. Their idea was seen as an answer to this year's Brandstorm challenge to create an innovation breakthrough using digital technology: "Inventing the future of skincare for health-conscious consumer".
L'Oreal Indonesia's President Director, Umesh Phadke, explained that this is a proud moment not only for L'Oreal, but also for Indonesia. "Team Phoenix's victory has proven that Indonesia is capable of developing world class leader. Not only that, it also proves that Indonesia has the potential to be a leader in research and innovation on an international scale".
"L'Oreal's ambition is to turn Indonesia into a talent incubator to create the future leaders of tomorrow. Brandstorm is one of our initiatives to look for the best talents in Indonesia, and to give them a platform to sharpen their potential and skills", explained Restu Widiati, L'Oreal Indonesia's Human Resource Director.
