L’ORÉAL INDONESIA RECOGNIZED FOR BEST HOLISTIC PERFORMANCE IN SUSTAINABILITY AND WATER MANAGEMENT

Jakarta, 26 February 2020 – L’Oréal Indonesia is honored to receive two awards from the Sustainable Business Awards Indonesia for Special Recognition in Water Management and Special Award in Best Holistic Performance which recognize the company’s ambitious and longstanding commitment to become an exemplary leader in the new sustainable economy.

 

Umesh Phadke, President Director of L’Oréal Indonesia accepted the award from the Minister of National Development Planning, Indonesia, Suharso Monoarfa, and Shinta Kamdani, President of Indonesia Business Council for Sustainable Development (IBCSD) at the award ceremony. Umesh Phadke, President Director, L’Oréal Indonesia said, “For many years now, we have been fully engaged in an in-depth transformation of our company towards an increasingly more responsible and sustainable business model. This award is the result of the steadfast determination of our teams and the extremely ambitious objectives that we set as part of our sustainable development program called Sharing Beauty With All.”

 

“L’Oréal Indonesia Plant has been able to reduce 59% of its water consumption per finished product compared with 2005 baseline by end 2019 out of the 60% water reduction global target by the end of 2020,” explained Puneet Verma, Director, L’Oréal Indonesia Plant.” The main water conservation achievement has been driven from the dismissal of water cooling tower. We have eliminated 65-70m3/day by switching to air-cooled-chiller. We will continue to innovate on more sustainable practices across our operations.”

 

The special recognition in Best Holistic Performance is given to L’Oréal Indonesia for bringing consistent performance across the 12 SBA Award Categories. The categories are Strategy and Sustainability Management, Workforce, Community, Energy management, Water management, Waste and material productivity, Climate Change, Supply Chain Management, Land Use and Biodiversity, Business Responsibility and Ethics, Stakeholder Engagement and Materiality, and UN Sustainable Development Goals.

 

 “L’Oréal Indonesia displays strong corporate initiatives across our 12 SBA categories. These efforts are promising and the company has displayed significant improvement across the years,” explained Shefali Chaddha, Chief Operations Officer, Global Initiatives. “These awards are scored through a three round process, which are online survey, scoring and verification by PwC and final insights by our National Advisory Panel consisting of senior, distinguished members from different backgrounds such as academia, social and business organisations, media.”

 

SBA Indonesia is organised by Global Initiatives, alongside local partners PwC Indonesia, Indonesian Business Council for Sustainable Development (IBCSD), Control Union and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN). The awards validate and celebrate the companies which are leading the way in sustainable business and which have truly instilled this objective into their long-term business

strategy.
